When a Clay homeowner, in a house in English Trace no more than 10 years old, felt the water dropping on his head, he assumed there was a water pipe leak above. Greg and Jason found that it wasn't in the pipes. When the house was built, the threshold into the shower had a waterproof cover over the wood, which was then surfaced with tile. But what good is a blue waterproof cover if the contractor nails it to the wood (see the nails in the photo), breaking the water barrier? The water was coming around the tile and through the nail holes, keeping the wood wet, and damaging the floor.
This would likely never had been found if the house had a crawl space under the shower instead of a basement. We fixed the watercover to prevent any further water from damaging the floor.
